There are a good many arguments in favor of working with a broker, and very few against it. Buying a house is a lot like setting out on safari: you may be able to find your way through the jungle on your own, but the trip will be much easier if you’re accompanied by a guide who’s been there before.
A good broker can help you in four ways:
1. A broker can prequalify you and thus help you estimate the price range you can consider.
2. A broker with a thorough knowledge of the local market (and access to the Multiple Listihg Service) can introduce you to a broad range of home prospects, allowing you to cover more ground more quickly than you could on your own.
3. A broker can explain financing alternatives and provide current information on interest rates and mortgage products.
4. Some brokers can provide detailed real-estate information on a variety of communities and neighborhoods.
So there’s no question that a knowledgeable broker can be a valuable aid in your search for a home.
